This year, a list number of animals were dropped off on the front porch of nonprofit rescue unit Animal Aid .

The tally so far is about 16 - more so than in the last six years combined, says committee member Katherine Hearn.

“That doesn’t seem like a lot to some people, but it’s a lot to us. It strains our resources,” Hearn says. “If we have more than we can solicitude for, the resident cats suffer.”

So the nonprofit shelter decided to confound back. In November, it had three security cameras installed. The shelter had help from volunteer Police station Dugan, who works for Platt Electric Supply , and his co-worker Dan Medford. The two installed the cameras on their own space, at no cost to Animal Aid. Hearn estimates the cost would have added up to several hundred dollars.

Eventually after the cameras were installed, a man dropped off two cats in a cardboard carrier, immediately underneath a sign warning that animal abandonment is a crime.

Animal Aid’s berth coordinator, Beth Merrill, posted a link to the footage on Facebook and asked its 1,339 fans for advise in identifying the man in the video.
