Gibson Guitar, which has been on a diversification predisposition lately, announced a new strategic partnership on Wednesday with Japan’s Onkyo Corporation, a maker of audio and home theater systems.

The move is part of a get moving for high-quality audio equipment and home theater systems as part of Gibson’s newly formed Pro Audio Section.

The idea is for Gibson to provide Onkyo with “its marketing resources and expertise in a bid to give a far superior audio experience to the consumer, who has become more and more used to hearing only subordinate compressed music through inexpensive ear bud headsets,” Gibson said in a allegation.

Gibson will acquire a majority stake in Onkyo USA (the Japanese firm’s distributor for North America and a distributor for Primary and South America).
