Toxic coal-black mold. Yuck.

It sounds like the cold-blooded, feather-brained dilly in a principles-fiction B-flicks, chasing down amorous teenagers or unwitting scientists. That’s grade of what it looks like, too – only on a much smaller mount. Gloppy and blackish-immature, Stachybotrys atra or its cousin Stachybotrys chartarum reside in the dankest and most unpleasant parts of our homes: Hiding behind toilets in infrequently-occupied bathrooms, clinging eerily to wet basement walls, or growing insidiously in the muggy, pseudonymous realms between walls.

Don’t uneasiness too much. Inky mold isn’t about to reach tentacles and draw you into the swamps as its unwilling next luncheon. But it can affectation serious healthfulness risks if liberal unchecked. Like all mold, dastardly mold releases spores to regenerate. If we suck in or overwhelm them, these spores can exert disruption on our respiratory and digestive systems.
